Lea from Star Wars by dlazaru Lea from Star Wars by dlazaru
The lineart is from Michel Turner!
Colors by me!

Hope one can see, that I'm really trying to improve my coloring skills in Photoshop. Well this one took over a month because I'm really busy with other things right now...
So I need to work a little bit faster on things...

You did an awesome job there. This is really great. There's not alot that you would need to improve. Here's the few things you might want to watch out for.

On the shading, you should be careful when shading and highlighting the skin. Overall, you did a very good job on it, but there's some places where the shading is a little too sharp. Remember that skin is not plastic, and that if its not wet, it won't shine that much. You can mainly see what I mean on her right shoulder, arm and thigh. The highlighting there is a little sharp for skin. You should blend it a little more.

Another thing. Although gold is mainly yellow, its usually not that yellow. A brownish-orange is a good base for gold. And on that, you should only add a little yellow, but not too bright. Also don't be afraid to add some good contrast to your gold, or any metal for that matter. That is what will give the realistic look.

Finally, you should blend the shading on her robe a little more. I find it a little too sharp.

Well that's it. Those little things are easy to correct and I have no worries that you'll keep on improving. Just practice a little more and you'll get the hang of it.

You've got a good coloring technique. Good use of both smooth blending and sharper shading.

I bet this would look better if the lineart wasn't so pixelated.

you're right with the lineart :D
It was a grey sketch Michel Turner did on a con for someone, who put it in the internet. It was very small and this was the best I could turn out of it...
Normally I dont like to use cuts in Photoshop because one need to know exactly the right spots where to put on the light and darker cuts. It can look very weird if it's done the wrong way, so I use the brushes more often cause, the transititions are smoother and its not sooo bad if you don't hit the right spot for lightning and shading...
hope you can follow me and my broken english:)
